Online identity
My online identity consists of a number of handles and e-mail addresses.
Handle
Most of my friends, and even some of my co-workers, know me as "Demonen", or "Demmy" for short. As "Demonen" is a handle that several other people use, I often combine the handle and short form and sign up for stuff as "DemmyDemon".
Origin
My handle is related to my taste in music. I like most music, but Norwegian Black Metal has always been close to my heart, ever since it enchanted me as a child.
When I started to grow my hair long and wearing spiked wristbands, one of my friends said I looked like a demon, and it stuck.
Don't worry, I'm not an actual spawn of hell. Far from it!
I can be aggressive and confrontational when people refuse to listen to logic and reason, but being quite large I realize I can be quite threatening. That's why I strive to be as mellow and balanced as I can, even when it's difficult.
Groups and hangouts
I am, like most people in the western world, on Facebook.
I don't like Facebook, and it's hold on some peoples social lives is alarming, but it's like getting a cellphone back when they hit: You either have one, or you're not in on 90% of the stuff that happens.
A while back I also created myself a profile on LinkedIn, and I like that format a lot more. There is more focus on social networking, and less focus on distributing a million apps and poking each other.
You'll find me engaged in a lot of discussions, from the Perl forum at devshack all the way down to the All Points Bulletin game forum.
Yes, that's right, I'm also an online gamer, and I enjoy hurting people online just so long as the violence never spills into the real world.
Rather than making me violent, I think video games have helped me get an outlet for a lot of aggression. Besides, most of the games I play require a high degree of concentration, and we can all do with a bit of practice at that!
