Gullmyra.no
I'm writing a content management system for Gullmyra Huserierforening and Gullmyra Boligsameie in my spare time.
It's nowhere near done yet, but a basic functionality site has been published at gullmyra.no
The design there is by my wife, and if it looks slightly similar to this page that's not very odd: This page is TulpaCMS, and is a fork of that project.
The job
My father is the currently elected chairman of Gullmyra Huseierforening, and since they had discussed getting a website for a long time, he decided to Just Get It Done.
Having a website programmer for a son and a hobbyist website designer for a daughter-in-law doesn't hurt either, I guess.
What they really needed was a place to publish and maintain information about themselves and the rules, regulations and standards that apply. My father being a fan of simple things, he did not want an overly massive project, but something that could easily be maintained by the non-technical folk.
The idea
My idea was to build a common solution for both Huserieforeningen and Boligsameiet so that they could be hosted on the same domain. This aids simplicity and is cost-effective.
Rather than to use some sort of WYSIWYG editor for the text and making complex code that could be re-used by anyone I decided to tailor-make a solution that uses the power of Markdown for it's text formatting.
I wanted it easy to grasp, easy to learn and quick to use, while still maintaining the possibility of doing quite cool stuff with it.
The software
I retain the ownership of the code, but it's licensed exclusively to Gullmyra Huseierforening and Gullmyra Boligsameie, so I can't really splash it here.
You can get the TulpaCMS code licensed under ESL if you want, which is very similar up to a certain point.
The future
Features still missing from the Gullmyra framework and site are:
- File upload
- News publishing
- Image gallery
- Sign-up functionality
- Opt-in E-mail Newsletter
As I'm doing this in my spare time, which there is precious little of these days, it's taking some time to implement, but it'll get there in the end.
The Pay
They're not paying me nearly enough to request time off from work to speed things up, but I'm being fairly financially compensated for my time.
